Emily Wilson

In 1982, Emily Wilson received her B.F.A. from the Memphis Academy of Arts. It was only after the discovery of Mexican folk art figures that she decided to pursue graduate study in wood at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, Tennessee, where she currently resides.

Her sculpture is a compilation of sanding, priming and seamless integration of carved basswood pieces upon an equally intricate steel wire armature. Frequently representing flora, fauna and other aspects of nature, each wooden element is effectively represented with airbrushed layers of transparent color and whispering linear patterns. The result is a curvilinear flow of steel and wood depicting images of gentle, natural co-existence that are pleasing to the eye as well as to the soul.

Emily Wilson has successfully completed many large-scale corporate and private commissions. Please call the gallery for further information and to obtain images.
