This past weekend, Jerald Melberg visited the Birmingham Bloomfied Art Center (BBAC) near Detroit to present awards to the prizewinning artists of the 2019 Michigan Fine Arts Competition. As juror of the exhibition, he selected work by 67 artists from a group of over 500 from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois & Wisconsin. This is the BBAC's 36th years hosting the competition, which has also been juried by Romare Bearden (1986) and Brian Rutenberg (2008), artists represented by the gallery.
All selected works are on view at the BBAC through August 22, 2019.
Philip Ruehle's painting Ulrich won the competition's top prize ($2,000)
