Katherine Boxall: Moon Garden

May 16 - June 27, 2026
Overview

Jerald Melberg Gallery proudly announces Moon Garden, an evocative solo exhibition of abstract paintings by Canadian-born, Austin-based artist Katherine Boxall. Moon Garden reveals a vision of abstraction that emerges from Boxall's ongoing exploration of gesture, color, and atmospheric space. In her richly layered compositions, Boxall fuses materials including acrylic, spray paint, pastel, and oil to create canvases that feel both elemental and deeply intuitive.

Moon Garden features canvases inspired by botanical and celestial palettes. A moon garden is traditionally planted with pale blooms and fragrant flowers that come alive after dusk, designed to be experienced in the quiet glow of evening light. In this exhibition, Boxall draws on that idea not literally, but atmospherically. Her paintings evoke the sensation of forms emerging and receding in low light, where color softens and edges blur.

The paintings in Moon Garden balance Boxall's instinctive mark making with careful orchestration. The result is a body of work that pulses with subdued luminosity, inviting viewers into a reflective space where mystery and familiarity coexist.

Join us for the Opening Reception with Katherine on Friday, May 15, from 6-8pm and our Coffee & Conversation on Saturday, May 16, at 11am.
